"Gordon Ramsay could not give this hotel any tips in quickening the speed and attentiveness of service. This was no Kitchen Nightmare! Our meal was in fact relaxed and I could not fault any of the four servers who attended to us! We were not rushed but as soon as you asked for anything, as if by magic, it appeared on your table! Thought this was a 'magic show' at times and they could read our minds.
I had the steak and it was beautifully cooked just the way I asked for. My wife had the typical 'Irish pork' meal with veg and potatoes and the only reason she could not finish it was that there was just too much delicious food on the plate. This was a Saturday evening and the restaurant and bar area was full but both the bar and waiting staff knew exactly what they were doing and what needed to be done. They worked together fantastically well. Although they were quick we did not feel rushed and once we had finished our meal the staff left us alone to enjoy our night, they werent after our table for the next lot of 'punters'. Excellent service and a lovely last evening meal in Ireland before we return home. Thank you!"

"Arrived tired having driven considerable distance. Pulled up outside hotel and entered to be greeted enthusiastically by Tom at reception. Efficient check in. Due to one way traffic system around the hotel and even after Tom's valiant map drawing exercise he sensing my reticence offered to jump in the car with me to guide me through the various roundabouts. An initiative warmly welcomed by me!
I was hungry but my late arrival meant the restaurant was closed. Tom told me he could arrange a sandwich which was eminently acceptable to me. Arrived at the bar having left bags in my well appointed room to be presented with the welcome sandwich by John. No problem to John to provide a proper pot of tea to accompany the aforementioned sandwich. By proper I mean it wasn't the usual hotel tea/browned water variety
A very pleasant bar experience followed, with excellent Guinness complemented by John's pleasant demeanour. Although there wasn't a resident 's bar service available John provided me with an adequate amount to sustain me for a further hour, during which I chilled while watching news channel that he set up for me on TV.
The night porter Paddy arrived at midnight and carried out his various tasks without hindering my continued supping in any way. In fact I asked him if it was possible to be supplied with a third pillow for me, despite the quality of the two already in my room, and he readily agreed to facilitate me in that regard!
In summary a tale of three men who were prepared to push themselves to ensure the comfort of one guest, that I hope they didn't feel was an unnecessary burden on them. Given their personable service I am more than happy to unreservedly recommend O Loughlin's if your travels take you to Portlaoise!"

"Still as good as the last time we stayed in June 2015. Nothing too much trouble .The food is amazing always piping hot. The staff are great including John and Damien and all the girls in the restaurant and the housekeeping staff. The manager remembered us from our previous stay. The hotel couldn't be more central for all the bars and nightlife . The hotel bar is great also and the drinks are no more expensive than in the other pubs. Can't wait to return next year."
